Total player spending in Harry Potter mobile games has reached $1 billion, according to Sensor Tower. Jam City-developed RPG Hogwarts Mystery remains the highest-grossing title based on this IP, with NetEase’s Magic Awakened hot on its heels.

  • The US is number one country by player spending with $374.8 million (36.6% of total revenue).
  • China placed second with $324.3 million (31.6%). It is worth noting that Google Play is banned in the country, so this number is only via iOS alone (and Sensor Tower doesn’t collect data from third-party Android stores).
  • Germany is in third place with $51.6 million, or 5% of total revenue.
  • Apple’s App Store accounts for 66.6% of all Harry Potter games’ revenue, or $683 million. Excluding China, the iOS share would fall to 51%.
  • Harry Potter games generated over 156 million downloads on iOS and Android. The US accounts for 20% of this number, followed by China and Brazil.
  • Google Play accounts for 84.5 million downloads, or 54% of total installs.

  • Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mysteryis the number one game by revenue, generating over $400 million since its launch in April 2018.
  • It is followed by NetEase’s collectible card game Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, which reached $358 million in player spending.
  • The game is still available only in selected regions, with China accounting for 90% of its revenue. So it may dethrone Hogwarts Mystery in the near future.
  • The other two titles in the top 4 are Zynga’s match-3 puzzler Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells ($218 million) and Niantic’s already-closed AR title Harry Potter: Wizards Unite($39.6 million).
  • Magic Awakened was the highest-grossing mobile title based on a book this year. It generated $85.4 million between January 1 and September 30.
  • It is followed by Puzzles & Spells, Hogwarts Mystery, Sherlock, and Peter Rabbit: Hidden World.
  • Magic Awakened was also the 31st highest-grossing mobile game based on any IP globally. It ranked above titles like Nexon’s FIFA Online 4 M and Warner Bros’ Game of Thrones: Conquest.
