Meta has decided to discontinue Horizon Worlds VR to shift its focus toward mobile.
Meta plans to discontinue the virtual reality edition of Horizon Worlds in June, transitioning to a mobile-focused approach.
The application will be removed from the Quest VR store by March 31, 2026. Environments such as Horizon Central, Events Arena, Kaiju, and Bobber Bay will cease to be available through VR.
Effective June 15, Horizon Worlds will become inaccessible on Quest, although players can still access "mobile-optimized" environments via the Meta Horizon mobile application.
Additionally, Meta Horizon Capture will be withdrawn from Horizon Worlds by March 24.
As of March 31, Meta Horizon Plus features, which include Meta Credits, digital apparel, avatars, and in-world transactions, will no longer be part of the subscription. Key gaming advantages and monthly games remain unaffected.
Earlier in the year, Meta stated it was redirecting its Horizon Worlds metaverse platform's emphasis towards mobile.
Reality Labs VP of Content Samantha Ryan stated, "We initiated Worlds for VR with a small team committed to crafting immersive narratives. Last year, we tested Worlds as a mobile format and observed encouraging results. Now, to make a real impact and reach a larger audience, we're diving fully into mobile."
In January, Meta announced a 10% staff reduction within its Reality Labs unit, subsequently shutting down three VR studios: Twisted Pixel Games, known for Marvel's Deadpool VR, Sanzaru Games, creators of Asgard's Wrath, and Armature Studio, which worked on the Resident Evil VR adaptation.
