In a statement shared on LinkedIn, the Stockholm-based company attributed the layoffs to disappointing sales figures, describing the decision as "exceptionally difficult" but necessary to maintain stability and sustainability.
The company stated, "Due to lower than expected sales from our six game launches in 2024, along with a generally uncertain future for VR games, we have made the tough choice to let go of 30 team members at FTG."
"This is an exceptionally difficult decision, but we believe it's necessary to ensure a stable and sustainable future for the company."
FTG emphasized its commitment to supporting affected employees, expressing gratitude for their contributions and dedication to continue delivering great games to its audience.
FTG CEO Oskar Burman addressed the team, stating, "It's extremely heart-breaking having to part ways with so many talented employees, some of the best I've ever worked with, and we'll do everything we can to help impacted staff land on their feet - please reach out to me in a DM if you're actively recruiting and I'll make intros."
The recent job reductions at Fast Travel Games are part of a broader trend in the industry, with notable layoffs reported in January 2025, including closures and redundancies at companies like Freejam, Splash Damage, Piranha Games, Jar of Sparks, and Ubisoft, which cut 185 positions.
