Reports indicate that a "massive restructuring" at UK-based virtual reality studio XR Games could potentially endanger numerous jobs.
Reports indicate that XR Games, a prominent AR/VR development studio located in Leeds, UK, is undergoing significant changes that jeopardize numerous positions. Although the company has not issued an official announcement, employees affected by these potential layoffs have shared the situation on LinkedIn, revealing that up to 72 jobs could be threatened by this reorganization.
Joe Hopson, a project lead QA tester at the company, shared on LinkedIn, "Thanks to a massive restructuring at XR Games, I am one among a sea of people that has been informed that my role is at risk of redundancy."
QA project lead Tamara Whymark expressed similar sentiments, stating, "I’ve just been made aware that my role of QA project lead is being made redundant at XR Games." Both Hopson and Whymark confirmed that 72 positions are at risk.
Max Fitzgerald, an Environment Artist with the firm, confirmed the situation, mentioning they were notified earlier about being among the 72 roles in jeopardy. "I've had an incredible journey at XR Games and met some amazing talented people. I hope our paths cross again in the future," Fitzgerald conveyed.
Daniel Drakett, head of IT, also shared his perspective: "Due to the latest round of redundancies at XR Games, my position and my entire team are up for redundancy. There are a lot of amazingly talented people up for redundancy at XR currently, it’s heartbreaking to see."
According to its LinkedIn profile, XR Games employs between 51 and 200 people.
