IDC: Global sales of VR/AR headsets fell by 67.4% over the year
The market for virtual and augmented reality headsets continues to decline, reports the analytics company IDC. They found that in the first quarter of 2024, 67.4% fewer VR/AR headsets were sold compared to the beginning of 2023.

The analysts did not specify the exact number of units. However, journalists at Telecoms estimated that sales could have totaled only 300,000 devices.
The leader in VR/AR headset shipments for the quarter was Meta*, with a market share of 37.2%. Following were Apple (17%), ByteDance (11.9%), Xreal (9.4%), and HTC (3.9%).
*Meta is recognized as an extremist organization in Russia, and its activities are banned in the country.
