In 2021, German VR developers earned $28 million. Almost ten times less than their UK counterparts
In 2020, a German court ruled that Meta* was abusing its dominant position in the country. Three months after that, the company stopped selling all its VR headsets in Germany. This decision has had a painful impact on the income of local developers.
According to PitchBook, last year the total revenue of German companies specializing in virtual reality amounted to $28 million. While developers from the UK earned $234 million. In 2022, the gap may widen even more.
In fairness, we note that German developers have previously earned less than colleagues from other countries. For example, in 2018, their revenue was $152 million lower than that of British VR companies.
