This was told by Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, during an event for investors.

In any case, the mark of 10 million copies sold is a milestone for Meta. In 2019 (the year of the release of the first Oculus Quest), the head of the company, Mark Zuckerberg, said that VR platforms should reach an audience of 10 million users in order to become a sustainable and profitable ecosystem for developers. In August 2021, Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s vice president for augmented and virtual reality, announced that the company could overcome this milestone “sooner than initially expected.”

Quest 2 became popular immediately after the release. According to SuperData, in October-December 2020, the circulation of the headset exceeded one million copies sold — only Samsung Gear VR (1.4 million copies) was more at the start. Moreover, this figure was also significantly higher than the total circulation of other popular VR headsets in October-December 2020. The total sales of PlayStation VR, Valve Index and Oculus Rift/Rift S then amounted to only 241 thousand copies.

The last time sales of Quest 2 could be roughly estimated in July. Then Meta reported that it was recalling 4 million VR headsets in the United States due to user complaints about skin irritation.
