SuperData: quarterly sales of Oculus Quest 2 turned out to be a record and exceeded 1 million copies
The analytical company SuperData has published a report on sales of VR devices for the fourth quarter of 2020. Oculus Quest 2 is leading by a large margin, which was bought by over 1 million people.Oculus Quest 2, which went on sale in October last year, sold 1 million copies in three months.
PlayStation VR (125 thousand copies) and Valve Index (61 thousand) also got into the top three.
The result of Quest 2 is an absolute record for VR helmets not from smartphone manufacturers. Only Samsung Gear VR had more, with sales of 1.4 million copies in the fourth quarter of 2016.
SuperData attributes the success of Quest 2 to a lower price compared to the first model and increased demand for VR devices, whose shipments have slowed due to the pandemic. Also, the helmet went on sale before the holiday season, and therefore it was often bought as a gift.

It is important to clarify that small mobile solutions like Google Cardboard are not taken into account here.
SuperData also reports that in 2020, the turnover of the XR market amounted to $6.7 billion, and sales of VR projects jumped to $589 million (an increase of 25% year-on-year).
