Google and Microsoft veterans create smart contact lenses with AR support
Mojo Vision company will introduce contact lenses with augmented reality support in the future. $108 million has already been invested in the project.
Steve Sinclair, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Mojo Vision, told VentureBeat about the project.
The presentation of Mojo Lens lenses in May last year helped the startup raise $108 million. Among the investors are Advantech, HP Tech Ventures, Motorola Solutions, LG Electronics, as well as other companies and funds.
About Mojo Lens
The developer promises to create truly smart contact lenses with the smallest and most saturated dynamic display in the world. Already now it is capable of displaying 14 thousand ppi (pixels per inch). The display uses MicroLEDs technology. Its power reaches 10% of the power of modern LCD screens.
For Mojo Lens, the company itself invented and patented a tiny display, chipsets and a power management system. She already has a working prototype of lenses with built-in displays and batteries. Mojo Vision is currently working on its own eye tracking algorithm.
The company also cooperates with medical organizations and centers for the blind and visually impaired in the USA:
- First, she wants to make the lenses safe for the wearer. For example, they are made of a hard breathable material, since soft turned out to be impractical. In addition, the lenses can be adapted to the eyes of a particular person.
- Secondly, one of the functions of Mojo Lens will be to support people with poor eyesight. In theory, lenses will help to make the visible environment clearer and more contrasting.
Other planned features of Mojo Lens include image scaling (zoom in and zoom in), as well as face recognition and demonstration of AR objects. According to the company’s idea, the lens owner will be able to see the name of a familiar person over his head. Support for the AR environment will be provided by the startup’s own platform, Movis Invisible Computing.
It is unknown when the project will be released to the market. Now he is going through various tests.
