Director of Zynga and co-founder of EEDAR launched a VR studio
A new VR game development studio has appeared. It is called Experiment 7. It is going to specialize in projects simulating the experience of playing board projects. Founded by Zynga and EEDAR veterans.
Former CEO of Zynga New York Demetri Detsaridis and co-founder of the gaming market research company EEDAR Geoffrey Zatkin took the helm of Experiment 7.
The main distinguishing feature of their VR developments they call the emphasis on the social component. While many modern virtual reality projects are focused on research or action, Experiment 7 products are based on simulating the experience of board games.
“Do you want to play chess with a friend who moved to the other side of the country? How about being in the spaceship bar with him, gazing at the stars together, chatting as if in person?”, – Zatkin describes the project.
The studio is working not only on games, but also on an entire ecosystem that allows third-party developers to release their own board games for the environment created by Experiment 7. It is called the Magic Table platform.
“Players on the platform can compete with real friends, other VR players from all over the world, fight AI opponents in different board games in personalized rooms. You can even play and chat with users with different VR hardware.”
The first project within the ecosystem was Magic Table Chess. It is already available for free download on Oculus Rift and Gear VR.
