Revenue from the sale of VR headsets in 2016 will reach $895 million
For the current year, virtual reality helmets will bring a total of $895 million in revenue to their creators. In terms of sales, mobile headsets will surpass devices for PCs and consoles. The figures were announced by the analytical firm Strategy Analytics.
Of the $895 million, approximately 77% ($670 million) will be accounted for by premium devices Oculus, HTC and Sony. The remaining 23% of revenue will go to manufacturers of budget devices (such as MergeVR glasses, for example).
Forecasts for sales volumes are the opposite. The share of Oculus, HTC and Sony devices will account for only 13% (approximately 1.91 million units). Sales of cheap devices will amount to 12.8 million.
In other words, VR devices for mobile phones will remain the leader in sales volumes in 2016. Such devices are cheaper and, therefore, more accessible.
