Tencent to publish Infinity Blade on Xbox One
Today, it is not uncommon for a publisher or developer to port their old game to mobile platforms. Not always the result can be called successful, but at least it allows holders of an older IP to earn a little, given that any such release attracts a lot of attention from both the press and the editors of app stores.
The reverse situation, when a mobile title comes out on consoles, is very rare. The first example that comes to mind is, of course, Angry Birds. By the way, the price of the console version of this game is comparable to the one for which all other console projects are distributed. The second example is a casual one: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The game was ported from PS2 to mobile platforms last year, and a couple of months ago from there to Xbox 360.
Apparently, the third case will be Infinity Blade. Under the title Infinity Blade Saga, the game will be available on Xbox One in early 2015. First, the game will appear in China, then in other regions. The appearance of the PS4 version will depend on Sony’s plans in China. The game will include levels of all three parts of the mobile series. But whether the project will be shareware or money will be asked for it is not entirely clear. But here it is more likely yes than no. Tencent is not one of those companies that bet on paid.
In general, the news is quite unexpected. Here, the choice of the publisher by Epic Games is immediately surprising, and the orientation to China, where the ban on the sale of consoles was lifted relatively recently, and the very fact of porting. On the other hand, the Celestial games market is one of the most dynamically developing today, and it is growing largely thanks to free-to-play, and Tencent is the largest local player. So, why not.
And what do you think about such a move by Epic? And would you play Infinity Blade on consoles?
