Wooga will become a publisher: UPDATE
German Studio Wooga has announced the launch of a pilot publishing program, being tested in conjunction with Tactile Entertainment, for its Airheads Jump game.
The Wooga management team decided to offer external developers internal resources of their company: knowledge in the field of marketing, customer service, localization, free-to-play and monetization.
This program is aimed at connecting small teams developing, first of all, mobile applications to the “mechanism” Wooga. The company will provide them with the same opportunities that internal teams use.
Chief Operating Officer Jan Miczaika identifies two main criteria for selecting new partners: whether they have a promising concept or prototype, as well as proximity to Wooga ideas. These factors, according to the company, will become the basis of long-term collaboration.
Of course, Wooga‘s proposal did not arise out of altruistic considerations. The company openly declares that it is a business, and it is not going to be engaged in just financing. You shouldn’t come to Wooga and ask for money: “The ideal situation is when everyone earns and everyone is happy,” says Michaika.
According to the company’s estimates, about 4,000 games are released every month. Consequently, it is becoming increasingly difficult to get into the tops of the App Store. In this regard, the new Wooga program is especially relevant.
In general, there is a good trend: developers are getting more and more opportunities to release new applications, because recently Yodo 1 and Facebook, as well as Wooga, have launched their own publishing programs.
