For the year, revenues from IAP in Google Play increased by 700%
Speaking at the Google I/O 2013 conference, Google Play product manager Ibrahim Elbuchikhi gave a lot of interesting figures and facts regarding the monetization of mobile applications in the official Android store.
In particular, he said that during the period from May 2012 to April 2013, IAP revenues increased by 700%, and the ARPU indicator increased 2.5 times. Elbuchihi also noted that since the introduction of the subscription, the revenues of applications using it have doubled every quarter. As a vivid example of the competent use of this method of monetization, he cited the Pandora music service.
A few more significant trends were noted in the report of a top Google manager. Over the past year, tablet apps have shown revenue growth that is 1.7 times higher than that for smartphones, so, according to Yelbuchiha, optimizing tablet apps is “worth it.” He also recommended using the latest AI features more actively.
Below is a graph indicating that applications with a higher rating are better monetized.
