The daily profit of the App Store for iPad in Russia increased by 143%

Marketing company Distimo has published an overview of the global mobile OS market for 2012. According to him, Russia is ahead of all countries in terms of revenue growth from the iPad.

The main trends of the last year, according to the company, are as follows:

1. Google Play has shown impressive growth over the past four months. The total daily revenue growth from the 20 largest markets was 43%. During the same period, the growth of daily income from the App Store increased by only 21%. However, since January 2012, Apple’s revenues have grown by 51%, with daily earnings from the iPad increasing by 71%, and from the iPhone by 40%.

The largest increase in daily revenue from the iPad App Store over the past year has been shown in Russia – by 143%. Also, our country showed good dynamics on the App Store in the iPhone version – 96%. Only Japan and China are ahead with 138% and 118%, respectively.  Russia, with dynamics of 37% over the past four months, has entered the top five world leaders in the growth of daily income in Google Play.

2. Despite the impressive growth of daily Google Play revenues, their dynamics in specific numbers was lower than that of the Apple App Store revenues (this is logical, because historically the revenues of the official Android store were also much lower).

3. Draw Something, one of the most popular apps of 2012, received 1 million users in 9 days. Distimo found out that such a number of users, in fact, can be collected even faster. Naver, the most popular Asian publisher, launched five apps in November. All five quickly became the most popular programs in several Asian countries at once. Line Pop, the most famous of them, collected 1.75 million downloads in 72 hours.

4. The App Store is still the most profitable app store. On average, in November, the revenues of the “apple” app store from the 20 largest markets per day reached $ 15 million. Google Play’s daily revenue from the same regions per day was much less – $3.5 million.

5. Only seven apps were “responsible” for 10% of App Store revenue in the iPhone version in November 2012. This is significantly less than in January of the same year. Moreover, 10% of the App Store in the iPad version accounted for six apps. As for Google Play, 10% of the revenue from this market was divided between 4 applications.

6. The greatest love for downloads from tablets is observed in Russia. The share of all iOS downloads coming to the iPad here is 46%. Noticeably behind us are the Netherlands and Finland with 38% and 35%, respectively. The smallest number of tablet iOS downloads is observed in Japan – only 7% of the total share. Yes, in some countries, iPad revenues have already overtaken iPhone revenues. Including in Russia.

7. The share of money coming from IAP in 2012 in the App Store increased over the year from 53% to 69%. But many publishers still manage to earn money from paid applications. Such projects accounted for 35% of the revenues of the top 10 companies. The main hit here, of course, is Minecraft: Pocket Edition, which, as we recently wrote, has been bought more than 5 million times on mobile platforms. EA and Gameloft games also performed well in this regard.

8. In terms of total App Store and Google Play revenues, the USA is still ahead of everyone. Japan is approaching them. The UK and Australia are also in the lead.

9. Games remain the most popular genre on the App Store and Google Play. They also bring in significantly more money.

10. The average cost of apps in the App Store is relatively high when it comes to the categories “navigators”, “business” and “productivity”. Users are willing to pay for them much more often on the iPad than on the iPhone.

From January to November 2012, the average price of an iPad app dropped from $3.42 by 8%. The average cost of an iPhone app, on the contrary, increased from $1.86 by 16%.

11. Of the 10 most successful cross-platform publishers, 9 are engaged in games.
