Statistics from the App Store

One of our readers, independent developer Andrey Gulenko, collected interesting statistics on the release of new applications and updates for iPad in the Russian App Store last September.

Andrey emphasizes that we are not talking about Russian-language applications, but about new applications and their updates available to users of the Russian App Store. In just a month, 11,878 new projects and updates appeared. As can be seen from the graph, the most popular categories were “Games”, “Education”, “Business”, “Lifestyle”, “Entertainment” and “Books”.

Game developers and publishers may also need to know the situation within the category.

The most “competitive” genre was “Puzzles”. By the way, we collected similar statistics for August 2011 and, according to it, the most “tight” subcategories were Action, Arcade and Kids – the Puzzle genre took an honorable fourth place.

On average, 396 new applications appeared every September day. However, if you look at the number of new applications by day of the week, it turns out that Tuesday and Thursday are the most popular days for developers.

By the way, it’s easy to explain why it’s Thursday: applications released by the end of the week are more likely to catch users’ eyes on the weekend, so there are always a lot of projects on this day. And that’s why Tuesday is so popular, one can only guess. Perhaps this is due to the long application process, as a result of which they were simply “late” with the release by Thursday and postponed it to the next week.

According to Andrey Gulenko, statistics were collected by the App Store parsing method using emulation of requests from a real device. On behalf of the editorial board, we express our gratitude to him for the data provided, and we remind everyone else that you can follow the tops of the Russian and American App Store and Google Play directly on our website (see the column on the right or here).
