AMD's FSR 4.1, an advanced upscaling technology, is set to be integrated into Xbox Series X|S consoles, according to Microsoft and AMD. The anticipated launch date remains unspecified, with Xbox's CTO, Scott Van Vliet, describing the rollout as occurring "soon" in a recent announcement video.

As reported by GameSpot, Van Vliet noted their longstanding collaboration with AMD, which spans over 20 years. They are also jointly working on Project Helix, which represents the future iteration of Xbox consoles.

The 4.1 version of FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) employs machine learning to enhance visuals by increasing resolution from a lower base level. This feature will extend its support to the Radeon RX 6000 series graphics units, Ryzen 9 laptops such as the Gorgon Halo and Strix Halo, and portable devices like the Asus ROG Xbox Ally, based on Z2 Extreme and Z2A processors.

At present, extra specifics for the Series X|S haven't been disclosed by AMD, and game developers need to update their software for compatibility with FSR 4.1, leaving older releases unaffected automatically. The Series X|S doesn’t come equipped with hardware specifically for machine learning, implying that visual enhancements may not measure up to those available on hardware like the PS5 Pro, which utilizes Sony’s proprietary upscalers, PSSR, and QSSR.

As per previous coverage, Project Helix is anticipated for a launch in the 2028 holiday period, with an expected price tag somewhere between $1,200 and $1,800. Timeframes have been accelerated, exerting pressure on teams to expedite their tasks, including AI integration.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma emphasized that AI will only be employed to enhance engineering solutions and performance challenges, avoiding its use without strategic purpose.

Additionally, it's been reported that Xbox's restructuring efforts continue, with further staff reductions predicted for the coming months.
