In an effort to enhance user discovery, Google Play has introduced Game Finder, Sprints, and Sidekick Playbacks

Google Play is enhancing its platform with new game discovery and social interaction features, introducing a Game Finder tool, time-limited Sprints competitions, and a clip-sharing function via Sidekick. These developments were detailed in a blog post by Sam Bright, Google Play’s VP and general manager, and a developer update. The company highlighted that its You tab now sees over 250 million monthly users, while the gaming platform links over 700 million gamer profiles.
Tailored game recommendations will be provided by Game Finder based on user preferences and reviews, with an initial rollout for English-speaking users in the US set for launch, and expansion to other regions planned. Sprints, 48-hour competitive events, group players by similar skills. Sidekick allows sending 30-second video clips to friends, reaching over 285 million users.
Quests will start offering in-game items such as skins and boosters in addition to Play Points. Google is integrating Game Playlists to group games and bringing PC titles like Dave the Diver and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun to the platform, supporting cloud saves across Android and PC. Game Trials will also extend to PCs, enabling sampling of premium games before purchase.
Developers can engage through Game Stats for access to features like daily Streaks and Sprints, with Play Games Rewards tying in-game incentives to Play Points. The Apps Experience and Level Up initiatives reduce service fees for recognized titles. PUBG Mobile, following the Level Up guidelines, noted a 22% increase in installations by high-value users and a 62% rise in spending per buyer in engaged players, according to Google. These programs are active in the US, UK, EEA, Japan, and Australia, with Korea expected later this year.
Additionally, Google remarked that since the launch two months ago, Play in Gemini has achieved over 6 million app installations and will be accessible to all Gemini users soon. Back in March, Google Play introduced features to boost the visibility and purchasing appeal of games on both PC and mobile platforms.
