The creator of God of War and Twisted Metal has called for the head of PlayStation Studios to be fired
Recent developments concerning Kojima Productions have stirred up some buzz.
On his YouTube channel, David Jaffe announced a few days ago that Hermen Hulst, President of PlayStation Studios, should be dismissed because of incompletion and a series of failures.
In particular, he examines the situation with Hunter’s Gathering, which after its announcement and subsequent closed testing, was sent back for a complete overhaul.
“This game, even on paper, clearly wasn’t anything special. They could have tested its mockup at an early stage without spending the money they are spending on development,” Jaffe laments.
He also mentions other mistakes by Hulst, especially concerning the IP close to Jaffe: “God of War: Ragnarok, in my opinion, didn’t live up to expectations. Sons of Sparta, of course, was a mistake. Undoubtedly, approving the release of that terrible shot from the TV series was a mistake. [Referring to an unfortunate debut still from an upcoming series based on the game, which sparked a wave of criticism from the audience]. And God of War: Laufey will likely be considered a mistake. And all this under Hermen’s supervision.”
For reference, Hulst became President of PlayStation Studios in 2019, succeeding Shuhei Yoshida. Among his controversial decisions are the launch of Concord, the cancellation of the multiplayer game for The Last of Us, and an excessive focus on the Horizon series, developed by his studio, Guerrilla Games.
As for David Jaffe, he is an industry veteran who began his career in the early '90s. He is renowned as the creator of the God of War and Twisted Metal series, for which he was responsible for the design.
