Xbox will publish Kojima Productions' Physint after being "unexpectedly notified" by PlayStation regarding the project's cancellation

Kojima Productions' forthcoming game, Physint, is set to be published by Xbox. This comes after PlayStation Studios announced their decision to cancel their involvement with the project in mid-June.
Hideo Kojima explained that the studio was "set on persevering with the project" and actively sought an alternative partner. Upon consulting with various experts and exploring different avenues, Kojima Productions found a shared vision for the future with Xbox, leading to their renewed collaboration.
Meanwhile, PlayStation released a statement expressing its decision to withdraw from partnership on Physint. They emphasized their respect for Kojima's creative vision and highlighted the strong industry relationship that has lasted for thirty years. PlayStation anticipates continued collaboration with Kojima Productions moving forward.
Initially announced in 2024, Physint was planned as a PlayStation exclusive. However, now under the new collaboration announced in September 2026, the game will be developed with Xbox, as stated by Xbox's CEO, Asha Sharma. Sharma described this as a significant milestone for the platform.
In addition to Physint, the collaboration between Xbox and Kojima Productions will explore storytelling opportunities in various media, including games, film, and television. Sharma remarked on the decision, acknowledging the creative freedom given to creators and expressing honor that Kojima has partnered with Xbox. She noted Kojima's ambitious approach aligns with Xbox's creative goals.
Kojima commented on this expansion with Xbox beyond previous projects, underscoring the commitment to advancing the action-espionage genre through Physint's development.
