The court ordered Google to simplify the installation of third-party app stores from Google Play
In its ongoing dispute with Epic Games, Google once again appeared before the court—despite both parties having previously reached a settlement.
It was revealed that Epic Games is dissatisfied with the installation process of third-party app stores on Android, competing with Google Play. In their opinion, the process is too complicated and lengthy.
During the recent court session, Epic Games pointed out that although it has been possible to download third-party app stores directly from Google Play in the U.S. since July, finding them there is problematic. For instance, searching "app store" often yields results for retailer apps like Walmart instead of the desired stores.
Another complaint from Epic Games concerns the layout of store pages on Google Play. The company noted that users first have to press the "View" button and only then the "Install" button, which prolongs the process.
Judge James Donato agreed with Epic Games' arguments and ordered Google to make changes to the Google Play mechanisms. He gave the corporation one week to comply.
