Media: Microsoft wants to release Xbox 360 games on PC
The Verge reviewed an internal Microsoft document. According to it, the corporation plans to port many old games to PC.
As The Verge discovered, within its plans, Microsoft will allow developers to transfer games that were once released on the Xbox 360 from consoles to PCs. They will also be permitted to release these titles on portable consoles and the upcoming Project Helix.
It is assumed that developers will have full control over the process. Specifically, they will decide whether to port their games at all, and if so—at what price they should be sold and whether to add them to the Game Pass subscription.
All of this is likely part of the recently announced Xbox backward compatibility program on PC, which aims to gradually bring classic console exclusives to computers. Microsoft officially introduced the program at the end of July, but did not specifically mention the Xbox 360. It is currently being tested with only four games: BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy.
If the information from The Verge is accurate, the full launch of the program is set for October 2026.
