Rumor: Microsoft Considering Ceasing Game Releases on Steam. UPDATED
Microsoft's gaming division might reduce its presence on PCs. This was reported by journalist Jez Corden of Windows Central, citing sources close to the corporation.

According to Corden, Microsoft is considering several options to alter its PC strategy, and exiting Steam is just one of them. He did not go into specifics but emphasized that no decisions have been made yet.
“I’ve heard that Microsoft has certain plans regarding the release of games on PC. I don’t know exactly how this is connected to Steam, but the plans I’m aware of — and here I’m trying to be very careful with my wording — sort of indicate that the company could potentially have the option to leave Steam,” Corden stated.
The journalist admitted he wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft indeed reconsidered releasing games in Valve’s store. However, such a development still raises significant doubts for him. In Corden’s opinion, Steam generates too much revenue for the corporation to easily give it up.
Microsoft has not commented on the rumors.
