Microsoft's Xbox has unveiled plans to introduce backwards compatibility for both PC and handheld devices

Microsoft's Xbox division is launching backward compatibility for PC and handheld systems, beginning with four classic titles: BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy. These titles can be acquired for PC and via Game Pass, with existing console digital licenses transferrable to PC and handheld devices.
Jason Ronald, Vice President of next generation, stated, "This is the start of a significant project to preserve legacy Xbox titles and transition them to PC." The initiative includes new features on PC to enhance visual quality without altering original gameplay experiences.
The improvements for PC users feature enhancements like quadrupled resolution, VSync, the option of both fullscreen and windowed modes, anisotropic filtering, and upgraded anti-aliasing. Additionally, Xbox plans to implement Achievements for these games in upcoming months.
This move is aligned with Xbox's broader strategic agenda, emphasizing platform exclusivity as part of a new direction detailed by Asha Sharma, further supported by Matthew Ball, chief strategy officer. Ball noted the necessity of sustaining growth through a steady stream of exclusive titles. "These games serve distinct purposes. We invite players to invest in our ecosystem, meaning choices are substantial and often involve sacrifices," Ball explained. "We must ensure players have compelling reasons to opt for our consoles and continue to fulfill their expectations even post-purchase."
