Gamers have filed another lawsuit over duties in the US—this time against Xbox
American gamers continue to file lawsuits over the rise in console prices in 2025, caused by tariffs implemented by Donald Trump. In the spring, they filed lawsuits against Nintendo and Sony, and now they have reached Microsoft's gaming division.
The new lawsuit essentially repeats the arguments that were made in previous complaints.
The plaintiffs noted that last year, XBOX raised the price of its consoles to offset the costs of paying additional tariffs. In February 2026, the Supreme Court of the United States deemed the tariffs unconstitutional and soon annulled them, allowing XBOX to seek a refund from the American government. Gamers are convinced — if the government does indeed reimburse them for the damages, XBOX would gain unfairly from the situation.
The plaintiffs believe that XBOX should direct the refund from the government not into its own pocket but towards compensating Americans who bought the consoles at the increased prices.
It should be noted that in 2025, Microsoft's gaming division announced price increases for consoles twice: in May and October. As a result, the cheapest Xbox Series S with 512 GB increased from $300 to $400, and the standard Xbox Series X from $500 to $650. At that time, the corporation explained that the reason was due to the macroeconomic situation.
This summer, the corporation plans to raise console prices again: up to $500 for the Xbox Series S with 512 GB and up to $800 for the Xbox Series X. The latest price increase is now attributed to component shortages. It will take effect from August 1.
