Rokky introduces an unofficial tool for Steam that verifies the usage status of bundle and press keys

Rokky, a major distribution platform, has launched a complimentary browser plugin that enables publishers and developers to track the usage of Steam keys. According to the company, this tool is designed for "partner reconciliation and sales forecasting" as well as "safe post-bundle verification."

The Steam Key Checker plugin operates independently of Valve's involvement or approval. It requires users to provide a CSV containing the issued keys, which are then verified against the user's Steam partner account. Rokky's CEO, Vadim Andreev, explained to GamesIndustry.biz that the tool aids publishers in managing vast numbers of keys often generated for bundles or distributed to media outlets and influencers. He pointed out the common issue among indie and AA developers of not being able to trace the fate of these keys once distributed.

Although Steam provides tracking for generated keys, the process can be cumbersome and intricate, especially for publishers involved in expansive marketing or distribution efforts where numerous keys are sent across the globe. The tool also helps publishers verify if, for instance, an influencer who didn't cover a game redeemed their key, allowing for follow-up investigations if necessary. This feature provides additional insights into distribution strategies.

Andreev mentioned that many publishers wish for such a functionality directly within Steam, so Rokky's Steam Key Checker aims to serve as an interim option. However, there exists the possibility that future Valve updates could disrupt the plugin's functionality. While the tool could potentially be used to reclaim unused keys from bundles, Andreev discourages this, emphasizing that it is not intended for punishing customers.
