Sony's PlayStation has removed StudioCanal content previously purchased by users from their libraries, citing "licensing arrangements" as the reason

Owners of Sony PlayStation were informed that StudioCanal films they had bought would be removed from their libraries starting September 1, 2026. According to a brief communication from the company, movie access will be unavailable due to alterations in content licensing agreements, and these films will be deleted. Customers were provided with a link to Sony's website for a list of titles impacted.

There have been no announcements from Sony regarding refunds or any form of compensation. A similar issue occurred in 2022, when PlayStation users in Germany and Austria lost access to their StudioCanal content. This move was attributed to "evolving licensing agreements" with their content partners. Furthermore, in 2023, customers also lost rights to watch Discovery TV shows they had previously purchased.

Recently, reports emerged stating that Sony seems to be applying "stricter guidelines" for what games can be published on its platform, affecting companies labeled as "shovelware" publishers, such as Afil Games. A social media statement from Afil disclosed that their future publications on PlayStation will not continue following this new policy decision.
