Sony PlayStation recently notified users that they will lose access to Studio Canal films they had previously purchased, effective September 1. The communication sent via a email stated: "From September 1, 2026, our licensing agreements will change, resulting in the removal of Studio Canal content from your video library."
Information about the numerous impacted titles is available on their official website. There has been no mention of refunds or reimbursements from Sony regarding this development.
Sony carried out a similar action in 2022 in Germany and Austria, withdrawing access to Studio Canal media due to "evolving licensing agreements with content providers." In 2023, they also removed Discovery TV shows that users had purchased. More details can be found here and here.
Additionally, last week, it was reported that Sony is reinforcing stricter publication rules to phase out "shovelware" game publishers. As a result, Afil Games announced via social media that Sony will cease its partnership with them for future platform releases, due to these reinforced guidelines.
