China's regulator received a complaint about "unfair" fees in the App Store

A group of 48 Chinese developers has expressed dissatisfaction with the commission in the App Store. They submitted a complaint against Apple to the State Administration for Market Regulation in China.

The authors of the complaint allege that Apple failed to fulfill its previous promise—to set the lowest commission in the Chinese App Store. Although in March it reduced the fee from 30% to 25%, the developers expected a much more significant change. According to them, if Apple allowed alternative payment systems and other stores on iOS in China, the commission could potentially decrease to 5% in some cases, but this did not happen.

The developers believe that the current commission rate in the App Store is "unfair" and excessively high for the country. They have requested the antitrust regulator to investigate Apple.

This is not the first complaint against Apple in China regarding App Store commissions. The corporation has been sued twice: in 2017 and 2021, but it managed to get the lawsuits dismissed.
