Subscribers of Discord Nitro will gain access to the "starter edition" of Xbox Game Pass as part of a new collaboration.
Discord and Xbox are teaming up to introduce a "starter edition" of Game Pass for those who subscribe to Nitro.
This starter edition grants access to over 50 games for both PC and console, with titles like Stardew Valley, Grounded, Hades, Fallout 4, and Doom Eternal included, plus ten hours of cloud gaming.
Nitro subscribers will not see any change in their subscription costs, as the Game Pass starter edition is bundled in.
Game Pass holders who qualify will also benefit from Discord Nitro perks starting later this month. These perks consist of 250 Discord Orbs monthly, 1.2 times more Orbs for completing Quests, and discounts in the Discord Shop.
Lu Zhang, Discord's senior director of product, stated, "We're launching Nitro Rewards, a program offering benefits through gaming partnerships, as we celebrate Nitro's 10th anniversary."
Zhang explained that this program gives Nitro members access to essential gaming services and gear, with collaborations extending beyond Discord's platform.
This release of the new Game Pass edition follows Xbox CEO Asha Sharma's recent announcement about cutting prices for the premium tier of the subscription service.
Pricing for Game Pass Ultimate has been reduced from $29.99 to $22.99 monthly, and that of PC Game Pass went from $16.49 to $13.99. Nonetheless, this reduction does not completely negate the 50% price increase implemented by Xbox last October.
In communication with employees, Sharma conveyed Microsoft's intention to "evolve Game Pass into a more adaptable system, which necessitates extensive testing and learning."
Recently, Sharma also revealed the cessation of Gaming Copilot's development on consoles and its eventual discontinuation on mobile platforms.
This direction aligns with Sharma's efforts to revitalize Xbox, focusing on strengthening Game Pass with a financially viable approach.
