In a comprehensive interview with Game File, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma emphasized the importance of Xbox in Microsoft's strategy, highlighting CEO Satya Nadella's decade-long vision. Nadella views Xbox as a pivotal audience for the corporation, aligning with Microsoft's mission to boost Game Pass subscriptions and invest in their forthcoming console, dubbed Project Helix.

During discussions with Nadella, Sharma recounted that Xbox was described as a "very critical audience" to Microsoft. With her consumer expertise, Sharma saw this as a chance to collaborate with Matt Booty, who possesses deep knowledge in game content. "This role was crucial for the company's trajectory," she stated, reflecting on the opportunity.

Sharma and Booty both aim to rejuvenate growth within the Xbox division by next year. "Our focus is on daily player engagement in the Xbox ecosystem," Sharma noted. This follows the rebranding announcement from Microsoft Gaming back to Xbox, where increasing daily active users is the new goal.

"Historically, our pricing hasn’t been as flexible, and I think that’s the big thing we want to go work on"

The commitment to making Xbox products more affordable was reaffirmed by Sharma. "We need to address diverse needs globally," she mentioned. Recognizing past pricing inflexibility, steps were taken to reduce Game Pass costs, responding to broad feedback. Price adjustments were made, and Sharma emphasized the importance of balancing affordability while innovating in hardware and services.

Booty pointed out that adapting to the evolving gaming landscape means addressing changes in player expectations, particularly regarding social and accessible gaming. "We need to find balance, catering to both hardcore enthusiasts and newcomers," stated Booty, highlighting the necessity of understanding and meeting players' desires.
