Xbox Chief Content Officer outlines integrated strategy for upcoming Project Helix console generation
Xbox is integrating its internal game studios with its hardware team in the development of its upcoming console.
During the Official Xbox Podcast, Chief Content Officer Matt Booty discussed the joint effort in Project Helix, highlighting the early participation of publishing and development teams.
Booty remarked, "What sets us apart from many large publishers is that we operate within the same organization as the hardware team, allowing our teams to engage early in planning and specification discussions and to remain involved throughout the process."
He noted that as with previous consoles, the collaboration between the hardware and software teams will be pivotal. This is already in motion across their 30 internal studios, including Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda Softworks, and Activision Blizzard.
Booty pointed to cooperative efforts such as Blizzard Cinematics aiding Playground Games with the Fable Reboot, and Rare working with Double Fine on the pottery-centric game, Kiln.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the unique cultures of different studios while fostering communication and collaboration.
At the GDC Festival of Gaming, Xbox's Jason Ronald shared progress on Project Helix, which focuses on high performance and a player-first design, thanks to a strategic alliance with AMD.
Ronald explained the necessity of pioneering new technologies to surpass the limitations of current rendering methods, anticipating the release of alpha versions in 2027.
