Xbox executive allegedly stated that Game Pass "has become too costly for consumers"
Microsoft's Gaming CEO, Asha Sharma, has indicated that the cost of Xbox Game Pass will be adjusted, suggesting the service has become "too costly for players." This information was revealed through an internal memo accessed by The Verge. Sharma highlighted the need for "a better value equation" for the subscription service.
Sharma also mentioned that in the long run, the company plans to transform the Game Pass into a more adaptable system, though this evolution will require time for testing and learning.
Previously, Xbox announced a price increase for the Game Pass of up to 50% to provide "more flexibility, choice, and value." Microsoft's gaming and platform communications director, Dustin Blackwell, explained that these hikes aimed at enhancing the plans by "adding more value" as promised.
Blackwell added that the decision was not made lightly, and player and community feedback is being considered to deliver what customers desire.
The company later clarified that in certain markets, customers with auto-renewing subscriptions would not see their prices rise. These regions include Germany, Ireland, South Korea, Poland, and India. Should these users cancel or restart their subscription, they will be charged the prevailing rates.
