The creators of Slay the Princess will publish third-party games
New indie publishers continue to emerge in the market. Just a few days ago, the co-authors of Peak announced the launch of their publishing house, and now the creators of Slay the Princess from Black Tabby Games have shared similar news.
Slay the Princess
The developers have named their publishing house Black Tabby Publishing.
Currently, Black Tabby Publishing has agreed to release two games — the psychological horror Prove You’re Human from Sunset Visitor Studio, known for 1000xRESIST, and another unannounced project from SmallBu Studio.
In a conversation with The Verge, the creators of Slay the Princess admitted that they ventured into the publishing business almost by accident. One day, the founder of Sunset Visitor complained to them about difficulties pitching a new game, after which the developers, half-jokingly, half-seriously, suggested he pitch it to them. The game impressed Black Tabby Games so much that the studio immediately wanted to sign a contract.
The terms under which Black Tabby Publishing plans to collaborate:
- The publisher is ready to invest several hundred thousand dollars in the games;
- Black Tabby Publishing will take 70% of the game sales revenue until they recoup their expenses. Then their share will decrease to 30%;
- Black Tabby Publishing will also provide marketing support and share expertise in game development;
- The contract with Black Tabby Publishing will expire three years after the game's release.
As emphasized by the authors of Slay the Princess, at least initially, they plan to work with a relatively small number of titles. For them, the priority remains creating their own games, so they do not want to take on more tasks than they can handle.
