The Gaming Copilot AI assistant by Microsoft is set to become accessible on Xbox consoles this year. Sonali Yadav, Xbox's product manager for gaming AI, mentioned this development at the recent GDC Festival of Gaming, highlighting the assistant's expansion to more player services as reported by GamesRadar.

Initially introduced last year in a beta version for PC, mobile devices, and the ROG Xbox Ally, the Gaming Copilot was first launched in 2024. It was integrated into Minecraft, offering players assistance through AI by providing tips and strategies when needed. In addition to help with gameplay, the assistant suggests games and informs about a player's past gaming activity.

Microsoft started beta testing the feature in May 2025, while the overarching Copilot initiative began in 2023. Asha Sharma, the new CEO of Microsoft Gaming, recently assured that Xbox will maintain quality integration of AI by ensuring "no bad AI" is implemented during her leadership. In her statement, she emphasized the importance of avoiding AI that lacks quality or value.

Sharma, along with Xbox CCO Matt Booty, clarified that there is "no pressure from Microsoft" to leverage AI indiscriminately. Booty stated that their teams are encouraged to use technology, such as AI, when it can enhance tasks like coding or bug checking within the production process. However, the ultimate focus, as Sharma pointed out, remains on human-created art with technology playing a supportive role. Further details were shared in an internal memo where commitment to artistic creation by people was highlighted.
