The upcoming Xbox console, known by its codename Project Helix, is set to include support for PC games
Asha Sharma, CEO of Xbox, has revealed that their upcoming console, known by its provisional name Project Helix, will be compatible with both Xbox and PC titles.
Through a social media update, Sharma detailed Xbox's aspirations for the new console, emphasizing its promise to excel in performance as part of their "commitment to the return of Xbox."
After assuming her new role just last month, Sharma stressed her dedication to focus on both consoles and hardware. She stated, "We're going to keep meeting players where they are."
"My aim is to 'return to Xbox,' starting with consoles and hardware. There are many gamers not on our platforms, and I want to ensure they receive top-notch games as well."
Sharma did not rule out the possibility of exclusive games returning to Xbox, noting, "Right now, I need to learn, candidly, about the reasons behind these decisions, the goals set, and what current data suggests about Xbox's strategy."
Recent reports indicate that Sony might also be adjusting its approach by limiting PC releases for its PlayStation-only games.
Last October, Sarah Bond, the outgoing Xbox president, acknowledged the next-gen hardware project, highlighting ongoing efforts in its design and development. Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, also suggested PC titles might appear on the console.
Nadella expressed, "We constructed a console aiming to surpass PC capabilities specifically for gaming, revisiting traditional assumptions. Ultimately, the console provides a unique gaming experience."
Last June, Xbox formed a strategic partnership with AMD to lay the foundation for their next-gen console, with Bond stating, "Together with AMD, we are pushing forward gaming technology to usher in the next era of graphics."
Sarah Bond left her president role last month, alongside Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, who has retired. Industry leaders recently shared their reflections on Spencer's impactful career at Xbox in various interviews.
