Amazon Game Studios has ended its publishing relationship with Maverick Games to concentrate on projects that better utilize Amazon's advantages and reach.

According to The Game Business, Amazon's decision provides Maverick the opportunity to partner with a publisher whose goals align more closely with theirs for launching their game.

Back in May 2024, Amazon had agreed to publish Maverick's first game, an open-world driving adventure set to arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Co-founder and COO Harinder Sangha of Maverick shared with GamesIndustry.biz that despite the separation, the game's development is progressing well.

"We are actively discussing with partners who share our long-term vision for the IP and anticipate sharing more updates this year," Sangha stated.

Earlier this week, Amazon closed down Glowmade's King of Meat servers, with a complete shutdown expected on April 9, 2026.

Amazon Games' MMO New World: Aeternum will also be deactivated on January 31, 2027, following a development pause last October as part of larger downsizing measures impacting 14,000 positions.

Maverick Games was established in 2023 by former Playground Games staff. The company is headed by Mike Brown, the former creative director of the Forza Horizon franchise.
