The new leadership at Xbox states there is "no pressure from Microsoft" to incorporate AI.
Under the leadership of Asha Sharma, head of Microsoft Gaming, Xbox is not under any pressure from Microsoft to integrate AI technology extensively.
In a conversation with Windows Central, both Sharma and Matt Booty, the chief content officer, highlighted the company's intention to utilize AI as a supportive tool, rather than a disruptive force.
"There are no AI directives enforced," Booty clarified. "Our teams are encouraged to employ technologies beneficial for tasks like coding or bug detection, which are integral to the production workflow. Ultimately, as Asha stated, our focus remains on human-created art, with technology serving as support."
Sharma supported her view that there is no intention to use AI negatively at Xbox and is committed to steering clear of temporary gains or inundating the Xbox ecosystem with meaningless AI content.
Sharma commented on the responsibility that comes with new technology, emphasizing the necessity of setting boundaries.
Expressing her dedication to console hardware, Sharma distinguished her priorities from those of former Xbox president Sarah Bond, who was behind the cross-device marketing push.
"My commitment is clear—it begins with the Xbox console," she said. "As the landscape changes, we will continue to engage players where they prefer to play."
Further stressing her dedication to the Xbox console and hardware, Sharma also aims to ensure exciting gaming experiences for those on non-console platforms.
Regarding potential changes to Xbox's exclusive title strategy, Sharma mentioned that all options remain open.
She added, "Currently, I need to understand the rationale behind past choices, and focus on long-term value over past outcomes."
Booty echoed this, noting that Xbox's operations are fundamentally aligned with being a first-party entity and not merely a publisher.
"Our system is intertwined with Microsoft's platform development, such as ensuring games like Gears of War perform excellently on new hardware like the Xbox Ally."
Reaffirming their commitment to first-party publishing, Booty indicated that their setup is deeply ingrained within the company structure.
Sharma asserted her and Booty's dedication to overcoming challenges and rejuvenating the Xbox brand.
"Acknowledging past difficulties, we aim to leverage our combined expertise and the seasoned gaming leadership to foster growth and secure a prosperous future for the next 25 years."
She pledged to stay informed, communicative, and focused on tangible results, fully dedicating herself to the task of revitalizing Xbox alongside Booty.
Last Friday, it was reported that Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond would leave Xbox.
Phil Spencer is stepping down as the head of Microsoft Gaming, while Sarah Bond resigned as Xbox president. They will continue as advisors during the transition.
