Sarah Bond, once leading Xbox, described her recent exit as the opportune moment for her future plans, both on a personal and professional level. She disclosed her decision on LinkedIn, indicating that she will stay on as an advisor to facilitate a seamless transition at Xbox.

"We're amidst a transformative technological period that will impact the future of our industry, and I'm eager about what lies ahead," Bond noted. She emphasized that this period allows for new perspectives and leadership to steer the team forward.

Bond has met with Asha Sharma, who will be taking over the role of Microsoft Gaming CEO from Phil Spencer, who is retiring.

"Over the past weeks, I've had the opportunity to collaborate with Asha as we planned for this change, and her dedication to our players, developers, and brand has been evident," Bond added.

"Her vast experience in technology and commerce, along with her proven record of platform growth and scalability, is exactly what Xbox needs. I am eager to see her guide our team into this new phase."

In 2024, Sharma joined Microsoft as the CoreAI president. As part of the leadership transition, Matt Booty of Xbox Game Studios has been elevated to chief content officer.

Bond also expressed her appreciation for Phil Spencer, noting his journey from joining Microsoft in 1988 in software management to his role at Xbox since 2001.

"I'm grateful for Phil's mentorship and friendship over the years. He has always championed this business and the people who drive it, teaching me valuable leadership lessons through both successes and challenges. His trust and support have been invaluable throughout my tenure."

Bond has been a part of Xbox since 2017, initially as VP of partnerships and was elevated to president in 2023. Her departure marks a significant change.
