The availability of the Steam Deck OLED is currently impacted by component shortages

Valve has announced that the Steam Deck OLED might experience "intermittent" unavailability in certain areas, a consequence of the persistent RAM shortage.

The note was added to Valve's store page for the Steam Deck after reports indicated that the device was not in stock in the US and Japan.

Valve had earlier postponed the launch of its new hardware, citing shortages in memory and storage. The company still plans for the Steam Machine, Steam Frame VR headset, and Steam controller to be available in early 2026 while keeping an eye on the supply and cost of these vital parts.

Valve isn't the only entity grappling with the RAM shortage. Bloomberg mentioned that Sony might push the PlayStation 6's debut to 2028 or 2029 due to these constraints. Additionally, Nintendo could potentially increase the Switch 2's price later this year.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed these concerns after their recent financial results, expressing that shortages "may put pressure on profitability."

Furukawa stated, "Any decision to change the price will be determined comprehensively, taking into consideration not only profitability, but also other factors like the platform's installed base, sales trends, and the market environment." He further stressed the potential impact on profitability if memory prices remain elevated for a prolonged period, indicating a need to consider various factors to navigate the situation.
