Xbox intends to achieve greater consistency in releasing first-party titles on the PlayStation 5

Xbox aims to deliver its first-party games more consistently on PlayStation 5, according to Xbox Game Studios leader Craig Duncan in an interview with GamesRadar. He highlighted the unpredictability of game release plans, mentioning that while games like Fable and Kiln are set for a simultaneous release, others like Forza Horizon 6 will arrive on PS5 later.

Duncan explained that the timing of project development, team size, and initial plans can impact release schedules. "When a strategy changes, maybe you've got a plan that exists with a game and maybe you can adopt that, maybe you can't," he said. He acknowledged the existing inconsistencies but committed to improving release regularity across platforms.

He emphasized resource limitations impacting a steady release timeline. "Not everything is limitless," Duncan stated. "So we just want to do the best job, by each platform, by each game." Some titles may debut on specific platforms first, as was the case with Grounded 2, which launched across Steam and PC before expanding elsewhere.

The highly anticipated Fable will debut across multiple platforms later this year. Duncan discussed the transition of the Fable series to Playground Games, known for the Forza Horizon series, recognizing their "relentless pursuit of excellence" as they adapt to creating a fantasy RPG. He noted that the new game incorporates modernized elements from the original trilogy, promising a remarkable RPG experience.

Moreover, Duncan addressed the shutdown of The Initiative and the cancelation of their Perfect Dark reboot, alongside the closure of Rare's Everwild, all part of broader Microsoft workforce reductions last year as reported here. He reflected on the need for strategic portfolio decisions and acknowledged the impact of these challenges on those involved in the projects.
