Playground Games has confirmed that Fable will be released in Autumn 2026.

This eagerly awaited game will debut on PlayStation, marking a first for the series. It will also be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.

During the recent Xbox Developer Direct, a trailer for Fable was showcased. Following this, Ralph Fulton, general manager and game director, discussed with Xbox Wire how Playground Games is reinventing the franchise.

Fulton described this new Fable as a reboot and not a direct continuation of the original Lionhead Studios titles, aiming to create a fresh narrative.

"We've approached this project with a strong sense of respect," he mentioned. "While the influence of the original series is evident, our goal is to forge a new beginning that enables us to share the tales we wish to tell."

Fulton stressed that recreating Lionhead's former work was not their goal; rather, they aimed to establish their own identity with the game.

"I told the team, 'We're not Lionhead – our aim isn't to replicate their games.' Instead, this needs to be distinctly a Playground game, as I firmly believe a team's unique spirit is evident in what they produce," he added.

He concluded, "It was vital for us to start afresh with a reboot because this is about creating Playground's version of Fable."

The game's release was initially planned for 2025 but was postponed to 2026 to enhance its quality.

This title marks the first new entry in the Fable series since Fable: The Journey in 2012. Lionhead Studios, the original creator of the franchise, concluded operations in 2016.

Playground Games, based in Leamington Spa and established in 2010, is recognized for the Forza Horizon series. Microsoft acquired the company in 2018.
