During the weekend, Steam achieved a new peak in concurrent users

Steam, the digital game distribution platform and client operated by Valve, has set a new record for the number of users simultaneously online.

According to SteamDB, the platform hit an unprecedented count of 42 million concurrent users on January 11. This surpasses the prior peak of 41,816,052 users, established just two months earlier.

Out of the 42,042,778 users logged in at the new peak, 13,119,473 were actively engaged in gameplay.

In comparison, Roblox previously reached a peak of around 68 million concurrent players during the second quarter of 2024.

Additionally, a recent interview was conducted with Michał Kiciński, GOG's new owner, and Maciej Gołębiewski, the managing director of GOG, to gain insights into their strategy for challenging Steam, addressing DRM concerns, and adopting approaches inspired by Nightdive Studios.
