A recent statement from a Sony executive reveals that the PlayStation Portal has become the primary device for PlayStation 5 Remote Play, overtaking traditional devices such as mobile phones, PCs, PS5, and PS4. Takuro Fushimi, the senior manager of product management at Sony, told TechRadar that the Portal, although designed to complement the PS5, is seeing higher engagement rates among its users.

Fushimi addressed doubts prior to the product's release about whether there would be interest in such a unique handheld dedicated to Remote Play. He indicated that the response from the community has exceeded expectations.

The surge in usage coincides with a significant update to the PS Portal, which now allows PlayStation Plus Premium members to stream a selection of games directly from PlayStation servers, eliminating the need to connect to a PS5. This feature, in beta for a year, includes streaming titles such as Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Ghost of Yōtei, and Cyberpunk 2077.

In addition, Sony's latest financial report for the first half of the fiscal year indicates a growth in sales for the Game & Network Services sector. The PS5 has achieved a total of 84.2 million units sold, with 3.9 million sold in just the last quarter.
