For comparison, the maximum number of concurrent users for Europa Universalis IV on Steam was much lower — 48,165. Overall, only four other games in the Paradox Interactive portfolio surpass Europa Universalis V in terms of online players. These are Hearts of Iron IV (93,196 players), Crusader Kings III (98,872 players), Cities: Skylines II (104,697 players), and Crusader Kings II (141,439 players), with the latter being offered for free.
Judging by the Steam rating, gamers were pleased with what they saw. By the time of writing, they had left over 3,000 reviews, 72% of which were positive.
Europa Universalis V is mainly praised for its well-thought-out development. According to many gamers, the developers took into account the experience from not only previous parts of the series but also other Paradox Interactive strategies. The game now includes more mechanics and has become more expansive. Nonetheless, its technical condition is still a concern: Europa Universalis V has critical bugs that lead to crashes.
Shortly before its release, Europa Universalis V had approximately 700,000 wishlists. How many people have already purchased the game is unknown.
