The highest-grossing games of October in numbers: top titles of the month by revenue and sales on Steam and consoles

In October, the battle for the title of the biggest release was between a PC-focused military shooter and the latest installment of the ever-enduring monster-catching saga. In this new edition of the monthly gaming market review, there is a wealth of data and graphs on revenue, sales, and other metrics of major releases, indie hits, and unexpected newcomers.

The games discussed in this article:

  • Revenue, sales, and other metrics of major releases on Steam: Battlefield 6, Escape From Duckov, The Outer Worlds 2, ARC Raiders, Dispatch, Little Nightmares III, etc.;
  • Data on the most successful indie newcomers of the month: Fellowship, Ball x Pit, RV There Yet?, Farthest Frontier, etc.
  • Console newcomers, their positions in retail charts, and sales: Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Ghost of Yotei, Ninja Gaiden 4, etc.

For assessing sales, revenue, and other metrics, we traditionally relied not only on official data from developers and publishers but also on information from external sources. These include Steam charts, GfK (UK retail), and Famitsu (Japanese retail), as well as data from analytical companies like GameDiscoverCo, VG Insights, Gamalytic, and Alinea Analytics.

It's worth noting that individually, the aforementioned services can have discrepancies. For example, VG Insights sometimes overestimates or underestimates revenue and sales projections for specific newcomers, particularly indie releases. Therefore, in compiling the charts, we relied on data from various platforms, including average values.
