Capcom did not see the point in releasing the old Resident Evil games on GOG, but eventually, the games showed "phenomenal" results
Last year, Capcom re-released the original Resident Evil trilogy, making it available in the GOG digital store. However, according to Marcin Paczynski, GOG's Senior Business Development Manager, this might not have happened.

In an interview with The Game Business, Paczynski revealed that initially, Capcom was hesitant to re-release the games. The company doubted that the classic versions of the early Resident Evil titles would interest anyone — as they believed, people were unlikely to buy them when remakes already exist.
Nevertheless, GOG convinced them otherwise. The store's representatives explained to Capcom that there are plenty of gamers who are eager to indulge in nostalgia and replay the trilogy in its original form. Hence, the games would not go unnoticed if they included support for modern systems.
And so it happened. According to Paczynski, the original Resident Evil titles received a "phenomenal" reception on GOG. The games garnered 94% positive reviews and sold excellently. However, the manager did not disclose the number of copies sold.
