September's main games in numbers: the highest-grossing and best-selling releases of the month on Steam and consoles
At the beginning of the month, we traditionally share data on the most successful releases from the past 30 days. Today's article includes a wealth of numbers and charts related to revenue, sales, and other metrics of September's new releases, featuring titles from major studios, indie hits, and Japanese RPGs.
Games discussed in this article include:
- Revenue, sales, and other metrics of major releases on Steam: Borderlands 4, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Dying Light: The Beast, Silent Hill f, Cronos: The New Dawn, and more;
- Data on the most successful indie titles of the month: Shape of Dreams, Megabonk, No, I’m not a Human, Jump Space, CloverPit, and more;
- Console new releases, their positions in retail charts and sales: Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian, and more;
- Updated data on the top-grossing and best-selling games on PC and consoles since the start of 2025: Mario Kart World, Monster Hunter Wilds, Split Fiction, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Schedule I, Expedition 33, and more.
To assess sales, revenue, and other metrics, we traditionally rely not only on official data from developers and publishers but also on information from third-party sources. These include Steam charts, GfK (British retail), and Famitsu (Japanese retail), as well as data from analytical companies such as GameDiscoverCo, VG Insights, Gamalytic, and Alinea Analytics.
It's worth noting that individually, the aforementioned services may introduce inaccuracies. For example, VG Insights sometimes overestimates or, conversely, underestimates revenue and sales estimates for certain new releases and (especially) indie releases. Therefore, when compiling charts, we relied on data from various platforms, including averaged values.
