U.S. prices for Xbox consoles are scheduled to increase for the second time

Xbox Series X

In a recent announcement, Microsoft revealed a forthcoming increase in the cost of Xbox Series X|S consoles in the U.S. Effective October 3, 2025, the price adjustments will range from $20 to $70 per console, prompted by shifts in the macroeconomic conditions, as detailed in a blog post by the company.

Notably, there will be no changes in the pricing for Xbox controllers and headsets.

The company acknowledged the challenge such pricing modifications present, assuring users that the decision was made after thorough consideration. Looking forward, Microsoft emphasized its commitment to expanding gaming access across a variety of platforms and continuing to offer value to Xbox users.

The updated pricing for Xbox hardware is as follows:

  • Xbox Series S 512GB – $399.99 (formerly $379.99)
  • Xbox Series S 1TB – $449.99 (previously $429.99)
  • Xbox Series X Digital – $599.99 (increased from $549.99)
  • Xbox Series X – $649.99 (up from $599.99)
  • Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition – $799.99 (previously $729.99)

Earlier in May, Microsoft had announced worldwide price hikes affecting both its hardware and software products, with the Xbox Series X seeing a $100 rise in U.S. markets. The company attributed these updates to "market conditions and the rising cost of development."

The issue of console pricing has been under scrutiny. GamesIndustry.biz's Rob Fahey examined these pricing challenges, especially in light of concerns from Capcom's president, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, regarding the impact of stagnant price cuts on large-scale game franchises.
