Valve has revised Steam, enhancing the platform to allow developers to more effectively evaluate the influence of discounts on sales

Valve has refined the revenue report feature on Steam, aimed at simplifying how developers assess the financial effects of discounts offered on their games. This allows developers to view how each discount they implemented affected their revenue.

Although this information was previously available through the sales and activations reports on Steamworks, it is now organized by the specific times when discounts were applied, covering from now back to November 2021.

Valve noted that developers and publishers who determine pricing and discount strategies could find this data beneficial as they plan future promotions. The page for discount history presents a detailed table organized into four columns:

  1. "#" - Indicates how many times a discount with the same percentage was applied for a specific USD base price.
  2. "Revenue" - Displays the total gross worldwide revenue generated during the discount period, expressed in USD.
  3. "$ per day" - Reflects the daily revenue to help compare the effects of discount durations.
  4. "Units" - Represents the total number of units sold during the promotion.

Additionally, this table provides insights into revenue and traffic data related to each discount period, along with markers for any price changes.

Valve cautioned that discrepancies might exist between these reports and the sales & activations reports for the identical period. This is due to the latter encompassing all purchase revenues, irrespective of discounts.

This detailed information is accessible to those authorized to 'Manage Pricing and Discounts' and 'View Financial Info' on each game. More details can be found on Steam.

Recently, it was also reported that Valve appears to have restricted the release of games with "mature themes" in early access. Further information is available here.
